This is a famous traditional recipe of Bagelkhand, Madhya Pradesh. It is a mountain pass which is famous for its trekking trails. The Indrahar pass works as a dividing wall between the famous districts Kangra and Chamba of Himachal Pradesh. Indrahar, is a combination of different types of dals (lentils) mixed and fermented overnight.
Indrahar is one of the most favored of recent trending foods in the world. It is easy, it’s quick, it tastes delicious. It’s appreciated by millions every day. They’re fine and they look wonderful. Indrahar is something that I have loved my entire life.
To begin with this particular recipe, we must first prepare a few ingredients. You can have indrahar using 17 ingredients and 9 steps. Here is how you can achieve that.
The ingredients needed to make Indrahar:
- Take For indrahaar
- Take 1 cup Arhar Dal or Tuvar Dal
- Make ready 1 cup Moong dal
- Prepare 1 cup Urad Dal
- Take 1 cup Masoor Dal
- Make ready 2 tbsp coriander
- Get 2 tbsp green chilli and garlic paste
- Prepare 1 tbsp oil for tempering
- Get few tbsp as required to cook the shot steamed cake
- Prepare 1 tbs to grease the plate for steming
- Take 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- Get 1/2 tsp catch Turmeric powder
- Take Few whole red chillies torn
- Take to taste Catch Salt
- Prepare Tomatoes 250grams 3 tbsp oil
- Take Catch Salt to taste Sugar 1 tbs
- Make ready 1 tsp garlic paste
While researching about the food culture The Indrahar which is the lentil steamed and it is actually eaten as a snack and also added in a tamao gravy to make the famous Indrahar ki sabji. Indrahar Pass acts as a border between the vividly known Chamba and Kangra districts of Himachal Pradesh. It is also amongst the most popular trekking routes from the tourist destinations of Dharamshala. Located in the Dhauladhar Range of the mighty Himalayas, this pass is also popular among the tourist due to the close proximity with Dharamshala.
Steps to make Indrahar:
- For indrahaar–Wash atleast 3-4 times all the dals and soak them separately or together, preferably overnight or atleast for 6 hours.
- Drain the water, grind them with few tablespoons of water in a mixer grinder until the paste is smooth and creamy.
- Heat a kadhai or non-stick pan, add oil, jeera and whole red chillies.Now, add the ground dal paste followed by turmeric powder and the minced paste of coriander, garlic and green chillies.
- Add salt to taste and mix everything together on low heat until the mixture collects at the centre of the kadhai and turns thick.
- Grease a dhokla plate or any steamer plate with a tsp of oil. - Switch off the flame, add this mixture to the dhokla plate and spread evenly and steam this for 20 minutes.
- Allow it to cool completely before slicing into pieces. - Pan fry them with few tbsp of oil until the crust is brown in colour. Remove the pieces aside, serve as snack.
- Wash and cut tomatoes into cubes. Peel and chop garlic. Heat oil in a kadai and add mustard seeds. When they crackle add chopped garlic. Sauté till light brown in color.u
- Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and coriander powder dissolved in little water. Stir for half a minute and add tomatoes. Cook for another five to ten minutes.t
- Add salt, sugar and one and a half cups of water. Simmer for five minutes. Once it comes to boil, and serve hot immediately with indrahar and coriander chatanih
